First Riders event - August 24, 2026
The 18th annual First Riders event will take place on Monday, August 24, at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. This free back-to-school event features guided bus tours and hands-on activities that help students and families feel prepared for riding the bus before the school year begins.
Invitations will be mailed to all early education and Kindergarten students who will receive yellow bus service for the 2026–2027 school year. Any student who is new to riding the school bus is welcome to attend. The event is also open to Grade 7 students who will be riding Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) buses for the first time.
The event is co-hosted with Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, ETS and bus contractors from across the Edmonton area.
Afternoon sessions run every half hour from 1:00–2:30 p.m.
Evening sessions run every half hour from 5:30– 7:00 p.m.
Please register by August 21 to save your spot.
Yellow bus service will be provided within the Callaghan neighbourhood for eligible elementary students. Yellow bus service will be provided within the Cavanagh neighbourhood for eligible elementary and junior high students.
While Edmonton Transit is the preferred means of transportation, yellow bus service is also provided to primary designated schools from neighbourhoods where there is no school, and to schools for students with special needs. Yellow bus service may also be provided to Kindergarten and elementary students attending alternative programs. Learn more about yellow bus service eligibility, applying for service and bus passes.

Visit Edmonton Transit System (ETS) for information about ETS routes to Dr. Lila Fahlman School.
Students who use ETS transportation to travel to Dr. Lila Fahlman School may purchase a monthly bus pass at the school office.
ETS Fees
Elementary students - $60.00 per month
Junior High students - $60.00 per month
In the event a monthly ETS bus pass is lost or stolen, a replacement pass is $72.50
